At least where I am I really only have the option of Comcast for internet and virtually only Comast for cable. There is Dish Network and all but Comcast is the only cable really. We did have Adelphia but Comcast bought them out.
Is Comcast considered a monopoly?

In a lot of areas Comcast does seem to have a monopoly. But technically it isn't because there are other cable companies they just haven't wired your area. Comcast is known to buy out the smaller ones. Just wait till AT&T wires your area with U-verse, they totally blow comcast services out of the water. Its great when a comcast salesman comes to my house, I tell them I have U-verse and they just stop trying to sell me their packages.
