I sent a demand draft to a university in lieu of application fees, but due to postal delay the post was not delivered till the last date. Now, I want to get refund of the application fee demand draft. I don't have the counter-foil because the bank took it from me when i was issued the draft. The draft was issue with cash money of 600 INR. I took a photograph of the demand draft in which the draft number is clearly visible. Is it possible to get the refund now or how can i get the information whether the amount has been encashed by the recipient or not. Please help me.

To cancel the demand draft, the submission of the demand draft is required. So it is not possible. You may ask the issuing Bank to get the ate of the demand draft. The issuing Branch has to get the information about the payment of the DD from the drawee / payee branch of the demand draft.

Demand draft it is like cash. If you have already submitted then it is very difficult to cancel. You can issue a letter explaining the situations to stop the payment of the draft.

It is neither possible to get the refund for your DD now nor you can know the status as if it has been en-cashed or not.It is only after three months from the issue date that the draft will become invalid,as per the bank rules. Then you can find out the status from the issuing bank and if not en-cashed,can apply for the refund.
