Is there a way to find someone who claims to work for a company but no longer returns calls?

My wife applied for a job with a company she found on Monster. They interviewed her over the phone, as we did not live in the same state. She was hired and faxed a contract which was signed and returned. We moved to the area where the job was supposedly located but now can no longer get anyone to return phone calls and when we tried going to the physical location, they claim to have no idea what we are talking about. We have the phone number of the person she spoke to on the phone and it is, according to whitepages.com reverse lookup, a landline based in Baltimore, MD where the company's main headquarters is supposedly located. The company's website is apparently down and calling the number found from google's cached version goes straight to voice mail. Any ideas or should I go straight to a lawyer?

I have found this site that offers all sorts of free information on what you are asking for. It may be worth a look at. It seems to have really good posts on there too.

Do not pay anyone to do this for you. You can visit quite a number of websites which have pro-forma letters - all you do is enter your details and post it yourself. Banks are bound by the consumer credit act 1974 which means they must provide you with six years statements when requested. They usually charge £10.00 for this. You can then work out how much you believe you have been overcharged. The Office of Fair Trading has laid down £12.00 as being fair but this is only a guideline and should not deter you from claiming it all back. At the moment most banks are awaiting a decision by the high court on this matter and may not pay out until this has been resolved. They may offer you an amount - usually half - so if it's a large amount it may be worth considering. One thing is guaranteed - they will not pay out immediately and will try to put you off so be resolute and stick to your guns! Hope this is helpful and good luck!
